Deaf awareness workshop
This afternoon Year 1 were lucky enough to have a zoom workshop to help us understand more about what it is like to be deaf.
We learnt 4 ways to get someone's attention if they are deaf or hard of hearing.
We learnt some sign language.
And we even learnt how someone, like Luke who delivered the workshop, knows when to wake up in the morning if he can't hear an alarm.Land Ahoy!!
Today Year 1 climbed aboard our pirate ship and set sail on the seven seas!
Someone shouted ‘land ahoy’ and we all pictured what we could see, hear, smell,
touch and how we felt.
Once we reached
land, we had to follow Polly’s instructions to find the hidden treasure. Polly
could only tell us to go forwards, backwards, left or right!

Symbols of Pentecost
Today Year 1 made kites and decorated them with different symbols of Pentecost. We then took our kites into the playground to watch them move in the wind.
As well as learning about Pentecost we also talked about our ELLI skills because a lot of resilience and team work was needed when assembling the kites!
Mayan Maths
Year 5 have been looking at the Mayan number system and undertook some Mayan maths as part of our Mexcellent project. The Mayan mathematics system was way ahead of its time. They used a symbol for zero, a dot to represent one and a bar to represent 5.
