Nelson Mandela

This week Year 6 studied the life and artwork of Nelson Mandela. As well as being a great leader and president of South Africa, Nelson Mandela was a talented artist. Much of his artwork was during his 27 years in prison on Robben Island. Mandela was arrested for his fight against apartheid.

Below are some studies we made of Mandela's artwork.

We looked at the famous hand print of Nelson Mandela. Few have left such an imprint on the international stage as Nelson Mandela. It is therefore fitting that the extraordinary imprint of his right hand should so closely resemble the shape of the continent of Africa.

Wild Science Visit - 17/05/22

Last week, St. Joseph's welcomed a few fury, scaly and slimy creatures to school with the visit from Wild Science. Getting the opportunity to meet, handle and interact with these animals, the children learnt about their characteristics, habitats and diets in engaging and highly-informative workshops. Many children up and down the school showed courage, resilience and curiosity, and I was impressed with their calm and gentle attitude towards the creatures. I hope to see the animals return to St. Joseph's again soon!
