Looking at wars since World War 2
For international Peace Day, Year 5 have been looking at the location of wars since WW2. We quickly realised there were so many wars it would take too long to locate them all.
Peace day - refugees
For Peace Day, Year 5 have been studying refugees. We built refugee tents to highlight the number of refugees fleeing war and persecution. Refugees are forced to leave their homes behind and travel to a new country, often to set up home at a refugee camp with tents.

Water Walk
From the 16th June onwards classes will be taking part in a water walk for charity.
This will be
as part of the Year of Jubilee and another event to mark the centenary of St
Joseph’s Church.
The children
will be walking laps carrying a bottle of water they feel comfortable with but is
also a challenge. To mark the church’s centenary and to set a challenge, the
children will be aiming for 100 laps (as a class or group) of the field or
playground.
All the
money raised goes to our school charity the Emmaus (Clifton Diocese Schools)
project. This event will also bring an end to our charity work for this
project. Please if possible make a donation to this charity event by handing in
a donation with your child or there is an option to make a donation by School
Gateway. If you select ‘payments’ from the account and then from the payments
list choose: ’St Joseph’s Uganda Charity’.
For more information on the charity see our school website https://www.st-josephs-pri.bristol.sch.uk/Clifton-Diocese-Schools-Project/

Centenary Challenges
To celebrate 100 years of St Joseph’s Church and to coincide with the Jubilee we undertook various 100 challenges. Each of these challenges was an act of Catholic Social Teaching.
The
Reception Class made 100 gingerbread men. These were given away to friends and
family as an act of kindness.
Year 2
wrote and hung 100 messages of hope on a school playground tree.
Year 4 collected 100 items for our local food bank.
Based on a famous Japanese story during the time of the Hiroshima bomb, Year 5 made 100 paper cranes for peace.
Year 6 planted over 100 seeds.
The Chaplaincy Team collected over 100 pieces of rubbish.
